I think that’s normal for many people, especially early in the career. I’d suggest to do it over a meeting (phone/in person). It’s a good way to get comfortable with this skill set.
But I would just highlight a few points about why you think you need an increase in an respectful way. They may say no but at least they know you are thinking about.
Also just be wary of the economic climate and where your company is at. Like if they are struggling financially then maybe wait it out for a better time and you can practice in the mean time :).
Two things:
1. Practice. I had a colleague that helped me, provided feedback, etc. Consider online training or YouTube videos. Whatever your method is, it’s all about getting reps and accepting that having embarrassing moments or slip ups is part of the process.
2. No raises in 3 years?!? Leave, literally go anywhere and you should expect to see 10%-15%. Network with recruiters and resume coaches…it’s all a game and interviewing itself is a sport.
Bottom line is no raises for 3 years is BS. You’ve got this.
