this? Like how do you show that you are indeed actually impressive if you were promoted early but that might not show up in comparison with another firm? And if you were promoted on-time but when that might seem like it was late in comparison with another firm? And if your firm has an extra level (e.g., D has 3 levels to manager, IBM has just 2)?
Working at D I feel like I'm being slowed down. I could've started as an SC and moved to M by next year at IBM, but here I am as a C, since that's the second level, moving up for SC after 1.5 years. I get that for level of responsibility, SC = M between the firms, but still.
I think a lot of firms know and understand this about other firms. As long as you can articulate your growth and accomplishments well it shouldn’t be an issue.
3 years between promotions within industry is good. Industry does not give promotions as quickly (or raises) so it shouldn’t be an issue.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. Headhunters who work with consultants have a pretty good handle on the differences between the firms, the titles and typical promotion periods. You can also just put a line in your resume like "promoted after x years (average is y years)". But honestly, I don't think 6 months here or there is gonna make the difference between getting an exit offer and not. Much more important to have a good network, references who will vouch for you, the right experience and be able to speak to and demonstrate your experience and how it's relevant to the new role you're aiming for.
I don’t think you should worry about that and most industry jobs won’t look into it too much unless there’s something crazy that stands out on your resume/CV.
