If you're a sneaker person, wear sneakers. If you wear sneakers, wear Nike. If yours are ratty, buy new ones.
If you aren't the type of person who wears sneakers to work, don't wear them to the interview.
Thank you so much, you solved it
Do not wear the old ones. Get a pair of retro Jordan 11’s. They are the perfect interview sneaker (sporty but still classy, and well respected kicks). If you don’t like J’s, but do like the classics, then you can’t go wrong with Air Force 1’s or Air Max 90’s.
Air Max 97’s or Blazers if you want to go trendy but still not full “sneakerhead”. Air Max 270’s if you want a newer model shoe and can pull them off with the rest of your outfit.
Another suggestion - don’t try to come off as a sneakerhead if you aren’t (meaning be careful if you splurge and go for Fear of Gods, Adapt BBs, Off White, or another collaboration and then can’t answer sneakerhead questions). A couple of quick sneaker questions from them will poke holes in that facade if you can’t answer. Be yourself.
Btw you should ask this in the sneakerhead bowl. Although I wouldn’t be shocked if you get the retro 11’s as a suggestion there too.
Let’s backup for a minute. You are interviewing with WK not Nike. I understand that it is for the Nike account, but you will not ruffle feathers if you are not dripping Nike. If you are a Nike fan flaunt it. If you are not then dress smart. Nothing worse than a poser.
Don’t wear your Nikes. Don’t wear any Nikes. They’ve seen countless “proud owners of Nike sneakers.” Wear an off-brand or lesser known brand of shoes/sneakers.
This’ll do the trick
JUST DO IT.
Buy the shoes dude.
Interviewed recently for in-house shoe brand. I bought and wore a pair of cute pink slip on sneakers and everyone noticed, smiled at me and commented, and really seemed to like it. I didn’t get the job unfortunately (the ECD was chilly and didn’t like me, I could feel it) but I don’t regret wearing the shoes. It was definitely appreciated by everyone else.
Funny, I’ve never understood why you have to wear the brand your agency works for. We had adidas and it was the same thing every time the client was in the building: “don’t wear Nikes!!” But why? Why would anyone be upset about someone wearing a competitor’s brand? Do they really think that they own you just because they buy campaigns from the agency you work for?
I see it from a different angle. Buying the client product (assuming it’s something you’d buy on your own doing) means helping their business. And also shows you care. I’d happily buy Nikes if my agency had the business. I also do buy them on my own right :)
Wear Nikes or wear shoes that are unrelated. Every agency has policies, or at least implicit or explicit rules, about this. The brand pays the bills—it’s good common sense to show that respect. And like it or not, our brands and agencies believe we’re brand evangelists. Don’t not drink the kool aid on the first date to make a point. Do the thing. Look the part. Individuate your footwear later. Don’t be an iconoclast in this way. It won’t help you
Cole Haans. They make dress shoes with Nike Air soles. It will express affinity with the master brand as well as propriety for the occasion
Wear the old pair. It shows you’ve been wearing them for a long time and just didn’t run out and buy a new pair for an interview. Have a small story about them in your back pocket - like how they helped you escape the Federales after they caught you peeing on a wall behind Husongs.
Nike Blazer Low. White. It's a subtle Nike that can be worn with just about anything. I wear them to every interview.
As long as you're wearing Nikes that's all that matters. In fact the more worn in, the better.
It’s a religion over there. Spring for some limited edition AF1s somewhere and rake in the offer.
Dressbfir success. Talk about this dilemma in the interview as a funny story. They'll certainly remember you.
Wear the Nikes. Brand loyalty and if they talk about you, at least it will be positive in regards to shoes. I worked with Chevy for non-advertising use and my former boss would literally rent a Chevy whenever he went to Detroit as to not roll up in a competitor. Optics matter
Only wear the Nike’s if you can tell a story about them or make you memorable (bright neon or something)
Jesus. Don’t wear. That’s distracting and trying too hard. That doesn’t prove your competency
Listen to the W+K folks. From everyone I know, you work there, you wear no other sneaks/sports shoes. Though Nike does own Converse.
