Do firms hire MBA grads as generalists only or is it possible to join a specific practice? For example, the customer strategy practice at big 4 or MBB

MBAs also join as specialists at McK in the expert track.

like

You can also join a specific practice as an integrative consultant like Marketing & Sales.

Depends on firm. B and B historically hire just generalists, but if you have deep interest in a particular practice, you could spend 75% of your time there. McK hirers tech (function), ops, and implementation as well as generalist. S& hires to industry verticals. Depends.

PwC hires MBA's as specialists eg. customer practice does marketing and sales related projects, P&O that does HR related work.

like

Ditto. I just graduated mba. Customer TMT at PWC

BCG hires MBAs as generalists but some digital specialists as well. Digital BCG consultants and generalist consultants are almost indistinguishable, with the only difference being that something like 40% of a digital consultant’s cases will be “digital”

Or is it more engineering?

Is it more worth it to go into FDD at a regional firm now, or hope that my current big 4 will transfer me come spring 2021?

I'm kind of in the mindset of only doing FDD at big 4, otherwise I'll go straight to industry. Am I being too down on mid-market FDD experience and the related exit ops?

Also, I can't go the route of doing FDD at a different big 4. Already got rejected by all of them cause I'm not in audit (but have CPA).
