Do Managers/Directors just not care about career pathing anymore? Are they too busy to exert energy in this? This is 2 jobs in a row now where there is no clarity on what growth would look like *and* if it aligns to how I’d envision my future.

Sadly, I could see this being the norm now since people don’t stay as long often times. What do you all think?

Based on the fact that I have been in my role for a year and a half - and had 4 bosses due to various restructuring… I would be surprised if HR even knew.

I try to make connections regardless within the company. Coffee meet and greets and shared lunches.

If you don’t have a job in a company large enough to do this, that’s wholly on you. There are plenty of large companies that do this type of pathing because it’s needed by employees. Just like you, who want to know how do I move up and where do I move up?

I had a great review and a 5.5% raise and a great bonus at my company. But I also got a new Director and a peer manager of mine left the company, so I will be absorbing her team. In addition, my director said I will be receiving 'deep delegation' from them. I don't mind more work, but deep delegation is a new term I've never heard. What does that mean lol?

"Everybody can be a leader" some say... "Leaders are nurtured not born" say others... True.

But... this is also true: "not everybody wants to be a leader" (whether they can or can't be). It is a fairly common practice in organizations with traditional career management structures for people to "be promoted" into leadership roles as the "end steps of the corporate ladder" that was climbed doing technical work. And, unfortunately, this doesn't work all the time

I have been in management for the past 8 years and part of large corporations. I just recently joined a small organization that I have wanted to be a part of for the past 2 years, accepted the role of general manager. Our annual reviews are approaching & one of my direct reports has been with us for almost six years w/ little growth. My reco was to let him go & find a stronger, hungrier & more motivated designer at the same level. However, my boss instead wants us to promote him in hopes that will spark some motivation. So my team currently uses onenote to house all of our SOPs and reference guides, but it’s becoming a monstrosity and it’s really hard to search and navigate. What programs do you use to provide your team with resources? Or is there some trick to onenote organization that we are missing maybe?
