Do you ever wonder what companies actually do with the voluntary disclosure questions on job applications? I’m talking about the gender, race, disability, and veteran status questions. They always say the answers won’t affect the hiring decision, but I am curious what’s the actual purpose of collecting the info and does choosing “do not wish to disclose” change anything? Maybe I’m overthinking it, but it’s one of those sections that always makes me hesitate.

I need help figuring out if I’m being underpaid. I’m working in real estate private equity and I focus on fund models and property valuations. I’m currently at base $80k and 20% bonus. On top of that I have 5 years experience and a masters in finance. I’m good at my job and receive positive reviews from everyone. Getting paid 85k base with 40k in bonus plus about 35k~ in OT.

Money isn’t everything but in my late 20s it feels like the only thing important right now.

I'm in finance/tech FPA, looking to go back to the defense industry for a 25% increase in TC. But wanted to see if I should leverage the new salary with current company to see if they'll match.

Background: got a promotion at current company that didn't come with sufficient increase . After stating my case I was told it would be evaluated next October, which is what prompted the initial job search.
