Do you participate in holiday gifting at work? Every year I get stuck in the weird gray zone of office gift-giving. Some execs do a big show of gifting each other things like wine or gift cards and then toss me a ✨thanks for everything this year!✨ card with no gift at all. Meanwhile, I end up buying little things for the team because I know no one else will think to include the interns or the cleaning staff.

I hate to say it but I don't give anyone gifts. Yeah, the interns and cleaning staff might get ignored. But every year that I gave them gifts, they never returned the favor. And then I just felt awkward because nobody ever thinks of me. So instead of getting resentful, I just stopped it altogether.

Where I work, everyone is above my paygrade. Each year someone eventually comes to me to contribute $100 to the gift pool for the owners to get them a gift card (like they need it - come on!!) My response is always that I don't gift up, which is proper etiquette for gift giving to your management/boss. Now, if it's a company-wide secret or dirty Santa, I'm in (with an approx. $20 limit). I would not buy anyone a single gift. We all have too much crap already and your gift (money) winds up in the trash or regifted to someone you don't even know.

We do a secret santa thing for people who want to participate but I usually don't. There is a pretty high limit and I just prefer not to participate. I have so many other people to buy for this year.

We don’t usually have gift-giving in the office. I have a few people that I get little things for. I provide a treat box with snacks and drinks at the front desk for the delivery drivers during the holidays.

How does one tell their boss (owner of the company) that you are burnt out? The sheer volume of work is exhausting and I haven’t taken a true vacation as we are a small company so if something urgent comes to my email I feel like I must respond. I was given an additional title and more responsibilities last year as well but only a 3% raise for it.

I recently had an initial interview for a technical recruiter position. The guy on the phone stated that this is not a 9-5 job and long hours are expected. I proceed to ask how much PTO is offered and he said that is not recommend within the first 6 months of working and the harder you work the more PTO you receive. From that conversation, I saw instant red flags. Any thoughts?

Planning a trip to Rome and Naples with day trips to Tivoli and Pompeii. Is 1 week enough? I feel like reading through 3/4 day Rome and 2 day Naples itineraries, the trip seems rushed. I have unlimited PTO but my SO is limited in time (but luckily he can work extra hrs and then use less PTO). I would say max we could do is 1.5 weeks but adding on 3-5 more days seems almost too much? Thoughts? For reference, I did Venice-Florence-Rome in a week and it seemed okay but it also wasn’t as planned out

I'm hoping to make some money and really get the word out there about my business during the holiday season. Is it a good idea to participate in farmers' markets/holiday markets if you have a small amount of inventory right now but want to get the word out? If buy the partners you work with regularly a holiday gift, how much do you spend? Usually I get baked goods or food items which you can’t tell the actual amount spent on. This year, though, I’d like to support local restaurants by encouraging people to order takeout—hence, giving gift cards.

How much is appropriate for a restaurant gift card from an associate to a partner?
