Do you take your diversity commitment outside of the office? For example do people at your church or hobbies know what you do? How much do you educate people in your private life?

Sharing my thoughts and feelings is always something I try to do. It's important for me to raise awareness and understanding outside of work, making every group I'm a part of more welcoming. I'm always up for talks that support diversity and acceptance, regardless of where I am.

Yup. I'm a member of a book club that focuses on reading and discussing books by minority authors. Also a volunteer for a local organization that works to promote diversity and inclusion in the community. It's near and dear to my heart so I advocate for it whenever I can.

Recently stopped taking Concerta (after taking it for almost 2 years at varying doses) because it started having some negative effects on my heart rate. I'm getting started on Straterra and a little nervous because I've heard so many bad stories about it. I was super tired the first day I took it and so started taking it in the evenings. Anyone have any good Straterra experiences?

I've noticed that my coworkers tend to work more on their own than with others, even when they're all in the office. Is this normal? "People just want it to work" is a thing clients have said about the product the company I work for makes. It's true. And it's all over. I usually think it's because Agile's method is what everyone thinks works but so much stuff across all tech areas seems to be released broken and then never fixed or fixed way too slowly. Anyone else feel this way? Has Agile worked for you and your clients?

I'll switch to a startup as the only data engineer and will closely work with all the Head ofs + the CTO.

Any advice/books/... on stakeholder management at that level? Especially when things fail/discussing budgets/new hires etc.

Where do you go after B4 audit if you don’t want to go to industry that has true work life balance? I’ve been busy since September straight... this won’t end for a while. I enjoy accounting and enjoy being challenged, but my mental and physical health are also falling by the wayside. I’m only in my second year, but I’ve been working in full senior capacity for a while. I like the research/memo writing side of the job the most (when I get to do it). Just tired of the hours.

It’s review season at my agency. I’m struggling with what goals to put down or things I want to learn. Not because I think I’m perfect (ha) but because our job description gets so amorphous as we elevate. I’ve been an Account Director for about 3 years. What are goals that y’all have set or things you’ve looked to learn as you’ve gotten more senior?

Need to get in touch with someone from investment banking to push the resume. The rolling process is hurting the chances.Thank you Goldman Sachs

Feeling very frustrated right now…company talks a big game about DEI internally, while requiring new hires to move to Texas/Arizona, while the company’s PAC donates to politicians pushing extremist, regressive, anti-woman and anti-LGBT laws

They want to encourage us to “bring our whole self to work” while putting us in situations where we can’t be our whole self.

Anyone else in a similar place, feeling discouraged? Any tips?

My company has ERGs and one of them is pretty large and includes a lot of demographics. Within it, people are starting to kind of form their own subgroups (like based on office location or country-specific ethnicity). Does anyone have any thoughts around what would be appropriate for DEI practitioners to be aware of when serving these populations?

In honor of National Voter Registration Day, The New Yorker released the transcript of a previously unpublished interview with James Baldwin, who gave a first-hand account of "Freedom Day 1963," a Black voter-registration drive in Selma, Alabama. Baldwin's descriptions from that day are so vivid and detailed that you can feel the fear and anger of the event. If you have a couple of minutes, I highly recommend you read it.

Definitely took the wrong job. I was offered a seriously competitive salary and great benefits to work at a well funded startup, which is great! Turns out the salary and benefits were meant as lowkey bribes to insure I worked at the company without actually doing any work. Every single suggestion I've made has been shut down and I've been ghosted for several meetings with the CEO. What should I do? Just leave?

My company is in need of a update online, could use your opinions! We need to better showcase our culture (caring, supportive, fun, intelligent IT industry leaders) as well as diversity. We are predominantly white still but making strides to improve here. What’s the best way to approach? I don’t want to seem disingenuous or that we are singling out our diverse employees (asking for photos). We have a remote and on-site workforce about 350+ EEs. Non white EEs make up about 35% of the company rn.

Working at a company and they can’t seem to hold on to their female, black and people of color employees. I blinked and 3 of the people who were in my onboarding class were either fired or they left.
