AI can handle some of the work analysts do, but it can’t deal with all the messy, ambiguous challenges that come with more senior roles. What I’m not sure about is how we’ll develop the next generation when so many of the early career tasks that help junior people learn and grow are being replaced by AI.
Companies always do what is best for business
Yes. There might be a correction when 90% of white collar jobs are gone and no one has the money to do anything, but nothing's stopping this momentum for the time being bar some catastrophic AI-related events.
AI will do more and ultimately Partners will have to sell more and manage more clients. But everyone who is left will be very well compensated.

It’s less about if AI will cause us to directly lay people off for efficiency gain and more about what adjustments we have to make to win work and keep clients. There has already been some push from our clients to deliver better and faster at cheaper costs and this will only accelerate that.
At that point, layoffs for us are inevitable.
Really amazed at people thinking things in 5 years will look anything like the prior 5. I see so many people focused on promotion from senior consultant to manager and I think, wow you have no idea what’s coming for you. I hope I am wrong. But in the meantime I would be hoarding cash and focusing on figuring out what you want to do when AI takes over knowledge work. For the time being there are other professions that require people (nurses, airlines, construction) so look there.
My wife is a nurse. She is my plan B.
Seriously though. It’s scary to think where it’s going.
I hope everyone is saving for AI judgement day. Take advantage of the last years of earning your current salaries.
It’s coming for all computer based work, and soon. If you’ve used Claude, or the many other tools you will quickly see it does 95% of your job better than you
I think 30% over the next 18 months. Then it levels out.
