Hi there, I’ve been told that Deloitte (London, UK) is going to make me an offer but haven’t heard back and it’s been over two weeks. The recruiter mentioned it would be around the “m2 grade”. Any idea what this pay range is? … I have 3 YOE working in NHS finance and have applied for a position in Risk Advisory, public sector. Curious what life at Deloitte is like? Does a work life balance exist?

It really depends on the business, and how they view the role of internal audit.
I’ve seen companies that have amazing intern a lot of departments, because they realize that they can use it as a rotational program to get people experience across the entire company, and then go be a leader because they understand how the business works
God I hope that’s the case here. I’m getting predominantly operational audit exposure, which was a big part of the reason I took the role in the first place (besides the money). I’ve probably done less than a month of SOX in the past year, been a big part of the risk assessment process and I’ve led an operational audit of one of the primary revenue drivers for the organization which was a very complex area with C level interactions. So I feel as though I’m getting solid exposure and experience, but the quality of the audit department is deeply discouraging. There are major breakdowns in communication (top down), many members of the team are secretive and political. Many people don’t understand audit very well beyond rolling forward stale audit programs from several years ago, and they’re resistant to change. This is all stuff I never had to deal with in public. My job feels much less about providing reasonable assurance and process enhancements now and much more about making sure everyone’s egos are appropriately stroked, while simultaneously trying to actually provide reasonable assurance on my own.
I actually worked in B4 Risk consulting doing IA and left to do audit for regional PA. I think a lot of what you're experiencing is more reflective of the effects of small teams, rather than internal audit specifically. That being said, most IA depts are small and it comes with the territory.
