My former boss works there , VP of experience design, and he loves it. FWIW He’s also an extremely amazing individual and my mentor.
I have former colleagues that do digital media buying/performance marketing at banks and they like it because the hours are better and the stress is less than agencies. There are times of craziness but overall much better work life balance.
However Goldman is another ballgame, being an investment bank the stakes are higher and that goes for all depts even people in IT. The culture permeates throughout the entire company and the pressure is felt by everyone. All type A’s with personalities times ten. It’s the Goldman way.
Appreciate the insight! Super helpful, yeah I’d imagine there’s less stress/long hours when you’re on their digital team vs. on the banking side, but I still just think of GS as grueling hours regardless of the position.
I look at it this way, if you have an opportunity to go in house, it’s a great opportunity that you can always leave if you hate it. Most agencies would welcome you back with open arms, and value the client side experience. They would probably love to hear that you hated it on the client side and you are ready for the excitement and creativity of an agency job again.
It’s investment banking, so it will be at times technical and dry. But you’ll learn a lot about business. I actually think it would be really interesting. But I am older than you, and I’ve worked with these kind of clients before.
Not sure if you are a man or woman, but financial services clients will often refer to the marketing team as “the marketing girls.”
Thanks for the reply! I’m just internally debating if the benefits of higher salary + in-house outweighed the loss of WFH at my agency and more “relaxed” atmosphere
If they offer stock options I’d be intrigued
I’m interviewing with them right now also!
