I am deeply influenced by the FIRE (Financial Independence Retire Early) principles.. wondering.. have people seen young partners (say A level partners) retire after a couple years? How does it affect pension for such partners?
Context: I'm trying to retire in the next 10-12 years.. which (if i stay in consulting) will probably be y2 or so as PPMD. Trying to gather some historical precedence info from the expert here!Deloitte
But what if you *are* Partner 1?

A good firm. Has been built out inorganically to a large extent- acquisitions of firms and teams over a period of time. The secret sauce of their success, I feel, is that there is no fixed culture that the firm is fixated on. There is no fixation on the McKinsey way or the Henderson way etc. There are some common values that binds the partner teams together - largely performance and integrity driven, but culture keeps evolving. Every acquisition tends to infuse something new to the mix - which doesn’t get rejected as foreign or a deviation from True North. Instead if it is fits in with the values of the partner group gets embraced and becomes part of the ongoing cultural evolution.
Very strong in F&R globally but there are market leading capabilities that vary by markets. So you will have to navigate and learn the firm’s strength over time by meeting global teams.
Weakness is probably something that attracted me - partners have a tremendous amount of agency. Incomparable to the large firms like BCG or McKinsey. They retain a significant control over their own agendas, markets and priorities.
Comp is complicated- but simply put is driven by margins you generate and is potentially one of the highest paying in the industry for a performing partner. Good ones can easily generate or exceed a Director/SP comp at the bigger firm.
Go to market is by teams and partner team, market team joint prioritization. But GTM is strongly a team sport - no lone wolfing allowed. We penalize you for not playing well.
This is one of the best firm for an entrepreneurial person who would like to retain agency over their career.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.
What you describe OW2 - Partner agency, entrepreneurial opportunities, team sport, great comp - sounds amazing
OW and BCG closest in working styles of major firms - but significant differences in teaming / client account mgmt (BCG more team based, OW more individualistic, for better or worse). OW also more short-term focused (linked to MMC philosophy) with limited ability to invest vs going after in year revenue
How much do they even make
Would suggest to reach out to a few folks that moved recently. Some were pushed out, others were attracted by OW’s value prop; good to keep an open mind.
