Does anyone have good (or bad) examples of policies/actions firms are putting in place to support employees with families during the pandemic?

Anyone have situational depression? Can’t stop beating myself up over a decision a year ago. Basically missed out on a massive amount of money. I know this seems trite and i never even cared thatt much about money before this year.

So many other good things happened to me this year - got married, got a puppy, moved etc, and yet the one thing i keep returning to is this decision as though i ruined my life. Ironically the only thing ruining my life is my outlook and yet i just can’t stop.

I used to be so devoted to my academics that I kind of forgot to make some close friends. How do you reignite your social life after college?

I love my SO. We’ve been together for nearly a decade and are talking marriage. I know being with him though will require living far from my family. I love my family and dread the thought of being far from them. My SO has been transparent about wanting to return to his home country. I don’t want to lose him but I also dread being far from my family. What’s the right call here? Fwiw he’s lived in my home country for about a decade now but has been able to visit his pretty easily (cont)

My friend’s ex is trying to win her back and she hates being single and like I ~should~ discourage this, but on a selfish level I want to be able to go out on his boat again this summer. He’s not a particularly horrible guy, but they’re a bad match when it comes to values/goals, which is why it didn’t work out the last time.

Does anyone feel a disconnect with friends who work a typical 9-5, or those who are non-entrepreneurial and/or never owned/run a business?

Whoever said bumble bbfs was great couldn’t have been more right. It’s weird I’ve l been confident in how I look in the last few years but my personality and likability was put into question but instantly I seem to be receiving the friendship attention I like, 50+ likes by 4am on the first day, signed up at 2am. How much do you share with your coworkers? I never really share much of my personal life with coworkers, but my team shares a lot about themselves & their family. I usually ask about their lives, deflecting the question. Is this weird? Am I being too cautious?

I'm a product engineer and it's hard to turn off work mode at the end of the day, I think of how products *should* be packaged when I'm shopping and can't understand why my wife doesn't care 🤷

Have you been able to spend more time with your kids during the pandemic? How?

Hadn’t noticed this sub before, and most of the threads are old so thought I’d ask a follow up - how has everyone been handling parenting with public accounting? I’ve got a toddler and my wife is an accountant (industry), and we only have a few immediate family in the country- but they have health concerns. Busy season was rough, things are looking better now as things return to normal. Still working crazy hours if you count the daycare duties on top of utilization targets.

I’ve always been a big saver minimum 15% to maxing out my 401k since I graduated college. I’m married to someone who thinks 6% is enough and likes $$$ cars. Other than the cars, they dont really spend money. For the married 🐠, how do you have the conversation with them that what they are doing isn’t enough? I try to guide them and say you want the $$$ cars but the salary you have won’t get there and you’re going to have to find a job that gets them the salary…. Then the fight starts.

Today is my first day back at work (and first full day back in my physical office) after a few weeks off for parental leave. Needless to say, I am struggling to stay focused on anything other than wanting to go back home to my spouse and child.

I know I shouldn't take an emotional temperature on day one, but it has been more difficult being back than I anticipated. Any tips for navigating the waters for the first day/week/month back?

I have a student who only comes to school two days a week and then only for 1 hour. He tells me I have to pass him so it doesn't matter. This is very frustrating. I knew this student hates school and often states he is stupid. I just do my best to encourage him. Build confidence. Any ideas to encourage him more? By the way, taking to his parent does nothing.

I've been avoiding breaking up with someone (I've been dating off and on for a year) for the past few weeks because I can't decide the best way to do it. We're not compatible long-term. I’ve worked in sales for 12 years (8 years retail sales and management, 4 years inside tech sales and management). I’m feeling the burn and looking for something else in the tech field. I’m making $140k. I have a college degree but no marketing, engineering, or product experience. What other departments/jobs could I jump to and still keep close to my OTE? I’m pretty good at Salesforce and have thought about a SFDC admin type role, but that’s all I’ve thought of so far.
