Does anyone know of any companies that do bottom up reviews? Obviously I think manager to associate reviews should be taken into account for bonus / promotion, but there are so many managers out there who don’t know how to manage and aren’t good to their subordinates, why aren’t there some sort of reviews for the bottom up to review their managers/ directors

At GT we started an upward review process. It’s kinda hard tho cause the questions are so basic, like if I got the results for myself, I’m not sure what I would do with them cause there’s no critical feedback available. But then also you run the risk of retaliation (which I mean you can make that a fireball offense but actually proving retaliation is half the battle) if you do provide critical feedback.

I think, especially as an associate, just keep your head down and try your best. Better to lay low than make enemies with your superiors. Understand that you might be coming from a good place but not everyone views critical feedback as a chance to grow as an employee.

I would hope of these reviews did happen it would be Anonymous which changes things

I LITERALLY JUST QUIT MY JOB BECAUSE OF THIS

like

Deloitte does.

PwC has upward feedback you can give anonymously on workday.

Also, when my teams go to do snapshots, we have the full team on a video call (or in a room pre-COVID), & have each level leave/return when we’re discussing them such that associates can give feedback about seniors/managers/etc when they leave the call. That way, they feel more comfortable about giving honest feedback and it can be taken into account for performance reviews by whomever is performing it.

I also ask my associates (I’m an S2) multiple times an audit & when I give them their formal feedback if they have anything I could do better or improve on to be a better senior for them.

We have upstream feedback at Moss Adams. You have to get three completed evaluations to receive the report which helps to filter out if there‘s outlier viewpoints or if it’s a consistent trend. We didn’t do it this year because our provider wasn’t supporting the system anymore but they are finding a way to bring it back as it’s a really valuable tool.

We have an upstream feedback form but it’s optional. I’ve never used it and don’t know anyone else who has.

In our firm (a London strategy boutique) we do this and honestly I thought it was an industry norm haha - how else are you supposed to develop as a (new) manager?

If yes, then kindly suggest a reasonable salary range for this role.
