I make over $100k (in a midsized market) Took me about 10 years to get there.
I enjoy account management on most days but at the end of the day you are the agency punching bag. The client’s too. It’s not for the weak.
Also…most people outside of your department how no idea how difficult your job is. Everyone just assumes you are bad at your job when the client isn’t doing exactly what they want.
My skin has gotten quite thick over the past 10 years.
I genuinely like my job. I’ve been mostly lucky with my clients (with one pathological exception lol), and while I have some rough days, I like solving problems, connecting people, and understanding personalities.
Anecdotally, the most miserable account folks I’ve met seem to have been the ones who see clients’ asks as direct orders and never bother getting to know the internal teams beyond what they can churn out.
Get out
Lots of missing context here.
I know AMs making over $100K base and that same amount on top with commissions, because of industry, their experience, etc.
And then of course there's folks making way below that.
Some people can do quite well on that kind of on-target earnings, while others need much higher income.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach.

I'm referring to AMs working in a sales capacity
I actually love it lol. Crazy and chaotic sometimes, and there’s definitely people that make the job harder than it needs to be, but I feel like I’d be bored doing something else
What’s your alternative?
Does anyone work remote?
I do an I am not paid what people make in my area for reference I am a Sr Account and manage a team of 5
I am fully remote but my entire agency is so it’s not really a disadvantage.
