PBB percentages and amounts will be available on 7/29. Look for the percentages to be modest and dependent on rank, rating, and performance against quality gates. Anyone’s guess about percentages is just that - a guess. If you are making financial/life decisions based on PBB, you are probably setting yourself up for disappointment. We make great salaries in this profession and bonuses are intended to incentivize certain behaviors. Public accounting offers a challenging environment with low risk on the salary side. Other professions offer high risk and high reward where the salaries are low and bonuses are structured such that the majority of one’s compensation accumulates through the bonus in a windfall year. If that’s what you are looking for, change professions and don’t look back. Over the course of a lifelong career in public accounting, one can have a fantastic job and salary. There just are not that many windfall moments along the way. Instead, the salary accumulates over time and savings and purchasing power increase. My lens is 25+ years. I’m earning 25x what I earned when I began my career. My peers thought I was foolish for sticking around between years 10-15, but they all now see the wisdom in my decision. Try not to think too short term and good things can and will happen.
EY18 are you a partner speaking from experience or simply talking conjecture?
Only way being a partner isn’t worth it for the 300-400 is the artificial bull crap they are made to do to get there…. The current state of auditing there’s essentially no risk in signing an audit opinion as long as there wasn’t amazingly large amounts of negligence…
If I were you, I will stay till 7/30
It’s not like you’re managing hedgefunds and getting a bonus. The PBB is nothing like that. If you’re going to leave anyway just go. It’s not worth losing a good offer.
Hah maybe HR is tryna save the firm some money by tricking you to leave.
Chief
Use that unlimited PTO for the rest of the month until bonus is paid out then dip
EY4, 2 days??? is that service line specific? In audit, Anything less than 2 weeks is fine without approval, just need your engagement team to agree. More than 2 consecutive weeks requires HR approval.
Yes you need to be at the firm to receive the bonus.
If this is what you were told, you need this in writing. Save it, send it to your personal email, and print it out.
Do not give notice until that check is in your bank account, unless you don’t care if you ultimately receive it.
Please stay to be safe, they’re trying to trick you.
Rising Star
You have to stay
That is usually the case
Your new job will understand if you have to move your start date for it and EY HR has seen this a million times before- Just be open
You have to be employed the day bonuses are paid out
Officially got to know from the HR that if we are employed on 7/30, we will get the bonus..
Side question: does anyone know when the bonus amounts are announced? I assume that it would be before the pay-out date but not sure
Emails said you’ll get a PBB statement email on 7/29 & get paid on 7/30. Transparency lol
What if you have already out in your two weeks notice before July 30 but it’s not your last day?
There’s always a risk they don’t honor your 2 weeks
Do you have the email response or chat screenshot from HR or is it thru verbal communication?
It was only verbal. I feel like they wouldn’t be able to give it in writing.
You have to be employed when bonus are declared. Don’t dare leave until then.
