Unbeknonwst to me, I replaced the managing partner's favorite associate. Nothing I said or did was ever going to be good enough.
I'm never sure if people like this have already turned on me and have decided to interpret everything I say uncharitably
Feel the same way atm
Yes. I worked for a partner like this who disliked me at week 1 and, despite high praise from other partners and senior associates, remained skeptical of my intellect and judgment for years. I lateraled and it was the best decision ever.
YES!!! I actually changed practice areas because of it. In his words, I was a poor communicator, but it’s impossible to communicate with someone who tells you you’re wrong no matter what you say or do. He was always right. It was his way or the highway. He controlled everything to the point that his mood would dictate the vibe of the group each day. I eventually started self-sabotaging by avoiding him and procrastinating like crazy because nothing I did was ever good enough for him. My confidence in my abilities was non-existent. Of course, that made everything far worse, but once it started, I couldn’t stop. I ended up leaving for another group.
Honestly, it was a blessing dressed in neon lights lol. I love what I’m doing now way more than what I used to do before. It worked out just fine.

I’ve experienced this.
Did you interview with this partner? In the process of trying to lateral and not sure if you were able to sense this partner during interviews.
Yes I interviewed with him, but wasn’t able to pick this up
Yes, it's why I'm responding to a recruiter and looking for another job. Not desperate but gotta get away.
