Does anyone else wish their school had been more up-to-date on STEM when they were a kid? I went to college with some kids who had been practicing and studying code since middle school. I learned about it from the internet in high school enough that I wanted to go to college for it, but I still feel like I started behind everyone else regardless of gender.

Progression to a management level attorney is quite difficult despite the relatively large. Recently the company announced DEI initiative that includes targets and goals for women and people of color (not applicable to other minorities). Does anyone have a recommendation for the best way to respond to "Well, how many people does this *really* affect?" from a stakeholder? This "Marketer" mindset needs to change, and I know my tone immediately changes for the worse when I hear this response. My most recent answer: "It doesn't matter; it only takes one person to file a claim." That was a knee-jerk reaction; I don't want to make it about the backstop the law provides. It's about inclusion informing better experiences for everyone.
We are exploring having a third party come in and assess our I&D efforts across our company. We have many locations across North America. Is anyone aware of an entity who does this? We have found questionnaires through target organizations and have done anonymous employee surveys but are hoping to find someone who can do an assessment for gender, minorities, disabilities, 2SLGBTQ+, etc. and provide feedback on the actual employee experience and where we may have blind spots.
Do you have close friendships with the opposite gender? Does this change if you’re married?
I’m watching the creativity awards on ad age. I decided to take a shot everytime I see a POC nominated. So its been 35 minutes and I have only seen one. But that wasn’t even the surprising part. When they went to the Inclusion award that’s when I just started laughing at the amount of Karen’s and Micheals in position. Not one person with a shade of color was in the category lol 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
Really looking for a way to turn around a toxic building culture with staff to staff bullying, cliques/social isolation, hard feelings on big topics (racism, non acceptance of gender identity). Last year the staff polarized with the lead bully whom I helped leave. And the lead gossip (who was my secretary) that gained their sympathy and turned them against me. She also left. Now I need to regain trust and eliminate unacceptable teacher behaviors. Open to any and all advice.
Is there a better city than the A in terms of diversity, cost of living, weather, airport, and overall stuff to do (nightlife, outdoors)?
Some contenders (although doesn’t fit every category) include Dallas, Houston, Austin, Philly, Chicago, NOLA, some FL cities, Seattle, Denver, & Phoenix in my opinion

Hello! It seems this bowl is not very active but I'd like it to be. So here's my story: Born & raised in PR, moved to CA for undergrad & have been here since then. I graduated from law school in 2019, followed by a 2 yr bk clerkship. I did the evening program. I really enjoyed law school, in spite of the microaggressions, the late nights, & crazy competition. Love all things diversity in the law. Anyway, currently looking for a position in NYC/DC area. 🤗

General question: Is there any room in corporate America for real, actionable DE&I discussions and initiatives? I've observed so many corporate versions become an advertising strategy (SM posts, diversity reports) without doing the actual work (increasing representation in senior leadership, salary analyses, having an effective reporting system for bias). Is this just how it is?

Can't help but feel like I'm in a rut. I'm 23 and realized I still haven't accomplished goals that I set when I was 20. I waste copious amounts of time on Netflix. I keep losing weight only to gain it back. I bought a standing desk and am still sitting on my bed to work. To hiring managers, why is networking such a big deal in this day and age? Do you find that candidates who do zoom chats with 3 employees and get referrals are much stronger than those who just submit applications?
(Note: I mean this sort of shallow networking as distinct from having worked closely with someone on the team. I understand why that referral carries weight)
