Just use sick days
SM1 - almost everyone is off during those Xmas holidas and people who are not have the least productive working days. Most the firm has furlough during that time as well. On top if that you getting add'l day off too. So learn to cooperate, Instead of complaining.
Yes; we are asking you to give up 5 days to get 20 off. We are closing the firm from like Dec 24 to January 3rd and asking you to give up 3 days during that time and then closing the firm from July 1 to July 8 and asking you to take 2 days of PTO. So you basically give up 5 days of PTO to get 20 days off. It isn’t a bad bargain
I don’t know, they increased Senior’s vacation by a week and added four or five holidays and had very rave reviews about the entire firm closing at that same time. I don’t know anyone that didn’t love it. Plus they solidified medical leave. All in all EY is making huge strides and all beneficial to employees. Not sure why using one vacation to get two holidays is a complaint? When they ALSO gave you the extra vacation days anyway? What is the complaint? I thought the whole thing was awesome...
That is ridiculous! I would not use my PTO because the firm decides to close for the holidays. I would rather work from home on those days and bill my time. The firm cannot tell me when to use my PTO. That is not giving you the holiday week off, that’s you taking a vacation.....
I personally like this policy. I'm pretty sure everyone received more holidays and because I'm a senior I also received more PTO. Win win in my book.
Plus my work around Christmas was never very productive.
Only days we get off are Christmas Day & the 4th of July. You are still coming out ahead on this one, trust.
We have to use 2 for Christmas break, but we don't have a summer break
The US already has abysmal PTO compared to developed nations and this takes the 3 weeks I get down to 2. I would rather have those 5 days to do with as I see fit rather than being told when to take time off. And it works out to 3 extra holidays added over the year over the previous years. Saying 5 days for 20 is completely disingenuous
They also gave seniors and extra like 7 days though. So I’m not complaining
Folks, the idea here is so that EVERYONE is off at the same time. Think back to the July holiday last summer. During that time no one bugged you with phone calls or emails. Everyone was off at the same time. It was marvelous! Now, if you really have to work for client demands or you really don’t want to be “forced” to take a couple days of your vacation time, I’m sure you can find a way to make it work. But remember no one else will be working and the offices will be closed. So you’ll be by yourself and no to help you. Also if you happen to work for me (or I for you) please don’t call or email me. I’m off!!!!! And don’t bother your coworkers, they are enjoying the time off as well.
We get all national holidays off. Never been asked to use my PTO because of a firm closure. That's crazy.
EY OP it’s actually not completely disingenuous for anyone that’s been working long enough to have worked through a vacation or holidays. What the firm did is designed to give you actual time off that won’t be flexed by demanding teams for a fake deadline. And you’re still getting *3* extra holidays. If you need the extra time off so bad, buy ADO. You’re making it a bigger problem than it needs to be
@EY11 it was only seniors that received extra vacation along with the bank your bonus.
You seem to be too stupid to work for EY. First we give you an extra week of vacation. Then we tell you to use 2 days for Christmas holidays and 3 for summer break. Overall you are better off with 2.5 weeks of vacation than before. But you still complain.
I, for one, love the new vacation scheme. I’m the first to complain on many EY cost-cutting measures etc., but I’m very grateful for this one. I struggle to use all my PTO anyway, so it’s really great that the entire office closes during those 11 days
As a Senior you are looking at 20 vacation days + 13 holidays + 10 sick days + 3 personal days. I think the technical term for that is a “shit ton” of days off! Can we drop it already and just say thanks?
I really hope the people that still feel shortchanged and wronged are not in my group as you are just miserable people who like to complain. That’s my only conclusion.
@Partner 1: Just through 1/1 =) And I'm not complaining about the extra days off or the mandatory weeks off, especially because I like grouping my vacations so consecutive vacation days are awesome, your 20 days off also includes weekends, which I don't think it should. Weekends are supposed to be personal time, so we really get "just" 3 extra days off. So while I think it's nice that we're getting 3 additional holidays and I'm grateful for any extra paid time off, I get why some people are not happy about using mandatory PTO days.
My first year working my senior at EY “liked to work during Christmas.” This entailed sending all of the team a lot of emails and queuing up to do items for us. Obviously if you’re on PTO you don’t need to be respond, but if you’re like me and have a hard time ignoring stuff like that (combined w being super new and not knowing that’s not normal) it can really impact the quality of your time off with family. Having everyone off at these times is good for everyone.
I think this is a good example of how it can be difficult to create company policy for a company that has so many different circumstances for their employees.
AS1, you really feel someone who just graduated a month ago and comes in as Staff 1 deserves the same vacation as a Senior who’s given a lot more to the firm? No way.
The hard part before was we got pushback if we didn’t work over 4th of July and if we didn’t work around Christmas. Or you actually take it and come back in and realize your leader is pissed you actually took off. It was so vague and so easy to be abused. This firm policy takes it of those hands and makes it black and white. For the partners on here, please know it is appreciated by everyone in my group at least.
