EY-Parthenon applied for PE group but offer letter doesn’t say anything about PE group - is your role essentially determined when you start rather than what you applied for?

Likely hired into Strategy competency which is a lot of PE work. Lateral hire interview processes haven’t been super clear, with job postings for “PE” which isn’t a clearly defined ring fence or competency at EY-P

I would reach out to your HR contact for more info.

Seems like you aren't tied to a practice? All new campus hires start as generalists now, so I guess it's possible for experienced hires to be brought in as generalists now, too. Would check with HR

Have you been hired into a practice? If strategy then you will do PE CDD, if TSE, you will do post-transaction implementation etc which can be for PE or corporate

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
