Wanted to highlight Prudential Financial’s hiring practices. They rescinded my offer once I attempted to negotiate the salary. The official reason given was that I didn’t “sound excited enough”.
They then admittedly gave the offer to someone who was less qualified. There were other red flags throughout the job offer process that the HR team should overall be ashamed of.

Varies widely based on the individual (educational background, network, ability to hustle, and ultimate career goals). At the very junior levels, people tend to not leave but some are able to jump to IB analyst roles (typically middle market and lower focused firms). Slightly more experience and you’ll see people leaving to go get an MBA (M7 isn’t heard of for people with strong undergrad). Experienced FDD managers and above frequently go to dedicated diligence firms like A&M and others for large comp bumps (can be greater than 2x big4) or to FP&A roles. Most of the SMs I know that have left have taken VP of finance / CFO roles at PE backed portfolio companies. Most partners I’ve seen leave have taken roles in private equity, either heading up internal diligence functions or taking the CFO role

Usually questions start with “what/who/where/which/when"
Depends on where you want to end up. FP&A is a good way to get into large corporate and has great promotability to higher role. You could go to PE backed portfolio company as long as you are comfortable with the risk of ownership change in near future.
