I wouldn’t move my kids unless it was absolutely necessary, which I wouldn’t call this necessary.
I also moved around a lot as a kid. Last move with my folks, I basically hated my dad for the next 4 years (4/5 of his last years on earth).
But, that’s just my experience.

What happens if you move then lose the WFH job? Or they decide you need to go to the office? Don’t count your chickens…
The headquartered office is in New York! I know I wouldn’t live there lol. The position comes with travel, however I’m not cemented to where I am, as if the company was here.
Do you need to move? Would you go closer to family or better areas for your kids to live/go to school in? If it’s also going to benefit them, then go for it.
Otherwise, if you’re just scratching an itch to try a new place, I’d really consider the pros and cons first.

Are they a good student? Do they like something special (arts or otherwise)? Have you asked your kid?
I don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer here. I don’t think 8th grade is a have to stay in the same high school. Especially considering some school districts have a 10-12 building.
Pretty good student. Keeps grades up to stay in sports lol. The school district we’re in now, junior high is grade 6-8, and high school 9-12. Never knowing exactly how other areas would be based the question around that expectation.
We had to move my kids a few times (4th school district since kindergarten) but I just wanted to be sure we were set by the time they started high school. Anything prior to then we’d move as needed.
That’s my thought as well, if we move, I wanted it to be in the upcoming summer before he would start high school. After that, we’ll be staying put through graduation
It was a very long time ago, but as someone who was moved between the 7th and 8th grade, and then again between 8th and High School, the move between 7th and 8th was much much harder. Being the new kid as a Freshman wasn’t so bad as all Freshmen were treated similarly by the rest of the school.
If you absolutely positively must move, talk it over with your child. Understand what is important to them and then make your decision.

unless the school sucks or the friends are toxic, thats a really bad time to move kids. HS is tough. HS is tougher when you are the new kid. HS is even tougher when tis your first time being the new kid.
Oh and if you’d think you’d consider moving, where would you think? I’ve found a few cities that have the remote workers grants and other incentives.
When thinking, I suppose 4 years isn’t thaaaaat long. Allowing him to be around his friends and then just travel more may be the best for him. And after that Mama’s packing it up lol
I have a sophomore and a 6th grader. I don’t think it’s a big deal unless your kid is tied to the school for a specific sport. My daughter went to private school till 8th grade, her middle school friends all went different ways when it came to high school. Once she got to high school she made entirely new friends and isn’t close with any of her friends from middle school.
I would suggest you to move , houston is getting bad day by day. If i had the chance i would
Shootings every night, starting to feel like Detroit vibes.
What are the reasons for moving? Is it necessary or are you just bored in one place?
If it’s necessary, I think you’re right about doing it the summer before 9th grade. If it’s no necessary and you’re both happy in Houston, I’d seriously consider waiting until they’re done with high school. Moving is hard, and since your kid has only known Houston you’ll be taking them away from their home.

Ask your kids what they want.
