Update: totally unnecessary to arrive so early. The line at the desks to check in was long, but moved quickly. There was not a soul in precheck, I went through alone. Maybe this was a rare experience, but hopefully not and this I do helps someone else! Got to my gate ~an hour before boarding 🙃
Wow. The odds were in your favor and we’re glad for that! Here’s to hoping all lines get like this soon!
Avoid the stress and show up early to beat the rush. The checkin line will be significantly shorter the farther out you are. All 300 people on your flight show up at around the same time and the majority will have passport checks, COVID paperwork, and lots of baggage to deal with.
If you clear checkin and security fast then just take a nap in the lounge.

THANK YOU PS1! Such good thinking
Yes this is true. Flew American last week internationally and missed my flight despite being there 2 hours early. The lines were insane for all the airlines right now, especially for tropical vacations that require travel authorization. Flew delta in October and December last year and it was 1 hour wait then, but much more people traveling now.

Have flown internationally with Delta twice over the last 2 months, was able to check in online both times. It may be something particular to your destination.
Not sure that the line for the kiosk will be the issue, but there's been giant lines for checking luggage as well as for TSA when I have flown.

Brutal. I called and spoke to a rep who said she thought it was our destination. I flew Delta international last year and did not have this issue so I’m surprised.
Last flew internationally prepandemic. Left to come home out of Edinburgh and arrived at airport at prescribed insanely early time only to find the entire airport shuttered for 90 more minutes before the gates would open. (Do as much homework as possible, I guess, is the best answer.)

Totally - security opens at 4 am, desks open at 3. So it’s looking like based on responses above to arrive ~3/330 in case it takes the full 2 hours. I just have always ignored the early arrival advice because it was always unnecessary, especially since I had delta diamond and precheck, I never had to build in time. Was hoping to hear the same today but such is post Covid travel. Blah.
Flew to Europe over July 4th week with American, used verifly and checked in at the kiosk in 5m. Barely an inconvenience
Make sure you check out when the front desk opens before you show up super early
