For anyone working remotely in tech, do companies still hire fully remote entry level employees or are most businesses pushing hybrid now? I keep seeing remote postings but then finding out later they secretly prefer local candidates who can come into the office occasionally.

You definitely need to research the company around remote. Are they a company who did remote before Covid or was forced into. Do they have a habit of changing their minds. Some companies will hire remote candidates and later change their minds

like

Remote is more common than being advertised I am finding, and I think that the number one factor is that any role at any level that is advertised as being remote gets 100's of applicants in the first day of being posted, where as roles tied to a location don't seem to get to 100 applicants. I've interviewed for a couple sales roles and come to find tjst it's remote so long as you live in the territory, or completely remote if it's a regional or national type role.

IBM, on the other hand, does have people currently in remote roles, though new hires are more likely to be hybrid.

Remote jobs are still there but hard to get through and tons of applications.

Nobody's hiring entry-level employees much less remote entry-level. Stop asking the same questions every week.

like

They definitely still exist. I work for a 30,000 employee company in healthcare and our entire IT department (except dedicated on site support like Field Services and the datacenter techs) is remote. Covid started it, but we found it way cheaper not needing to lease so much space for engineers that can work from home. Not to mention, for the space we did keep, it was way more profitable to convert it to clinical space. It likely depends on what sector the company is in along with its senior management.

Though when it comes to “entry level”, it does get more difficult. Most of our infrastructure and security IT teams are not considered entry level, so getting one of the remote jobs is harder. Generally, people start out either in Field Services, the Help Desk, or in some cases as a clinical tech and make the move to IT. Then the infrastructure teams tend to hire from those pools or externally.

Received an offer to lateral to a Big Law firm in my current state. Kind of my dream job. Recently decided with my spouse that we’ve had more than enough of our current state and we want to move out of state next year. There’s no local office for this firm where we’re going, and no idea if remote would be an option. Conflicted on whether it’s fair to take the position, although I really want it. Thoughts?

Should I leave my first permanent job as a team leader of 4 DPs in a FMCG business (only been there for 4 months) to join a huge Tech business for a 12months contract?

They offer me 60% more money than my permanent role. Circa 2000 dollars every month in my pocket

However, I am worried if I accept the tech role and I do not become permanent I will be looking again for a job in 12-24 months and my CV won't be showing a managerial position. Won't be showing any progress.

Hello, I'm hearing product management is the space to be if you want to see a considerable bump in pay. What is the path forward to reach that role? I have experience as a project manager, scrum master, and BA and I was hoping these combined could land me a product manager role, but it seems like companies require extensive prior experience as a product manager already - so, what is the best way to get my foot into that role?

I prefer working for what is offered on contract without negotiating, and then negotiate when I transition into the company itself so I have a better chance of getting the contract position and show my skills.

Career advice?

I'm a relatively junior data engineer (2yoe), the only other engineer (senior) that trained me left about a 6 months ago and I negotiated a nice raise for the extra responsibilities.

My performance reviews have been stellar, but my manager is starting to look to hire a senior to help me deliver projects as we do lack capacity right now.

I feel like I might be missing an opportunity to ask for a promotion and hire a junior instead.

Any opinions/tips?

Considering pivoting into tech. Currently considering Project Management or Presales tech. I understand the general roles of each. Presales seem to make more than PM, so I am leaning towards presales. Curious if any PMs considered presales and why you decided to do Project management instead
