My firm would not allow this - if you move to another state and plan to practice from there you are required to be barred there.

The ABA issued guidance last year that says you can work in a state where you’re not licensed
This is very helpful. I imagine that was the case with federal law. I just wanted to have something to back up my request to not take the CA bar lol thank you.

You cannot provide legal advice to any CA based clients in this arrangement at all. Maybe not an issue.
I don’t believe that’s true. Unless it’s about California laws. If I’m doing an IPO for a company established in CA then there is no issue at all where I’m barred.
Living in CA will give your employer nexus with CA and subject them to CA employment law, including workers compensation rules. They will also have to register to do business in CA and have CA-source income.
It's amazing how often that gets overlooked.
My current firm says I don’t need to take the bar but I’m currently interviewing for another that mentioned it, although hasn’t said that’s actually a requirement. So I wanted to know if anyone has had a similar experience and whether you did end up taking another bar. Thanks.
I’m barred in CA and my firm said I’d have to be barred in any state that I move to and WFH permanently.
Check what the CA rules are. That’ll answer your question on whether it’s allowed
