Very true about vacation time. If you aren’t improving your excel skills in public you are limiting yourself there as well. I was in public, industry, consulting then back to public. Cons of industry include getting bored (had to change jobs every 2 to 3 years to not go nuts) and you are overhead so the rest of the company treats you like dirt. Pro was shorter hours except at quarter and year end
I've only been a senior accountant in private for less than a week, but so far, the pros are, there is a lot of emphasis on Excel in private. They force you to expand your Excel skills. I also feel like that my job is more value added because my boss tells me what needs to be done, and wants me to find ways to do it more efficiently. I didn't really have the opportunity to do that in audit. There cons are, taking vacations and time of seems way easier in public.
