I was able to get the RSV immunization while pregnant which was great for peace of mind. Otherwise, similarly we just limited contact. We had grandparents in for thanksgiving at ~1 month old and then otherwise really didn’t see them until after the first course of vaccines. No other kids so was less of an issue.
You could require any grandparents to have flu/ covid shots as well as the normal vaccines
I am going to have a Jan baby. I am taking the flu, Covid, RSV, tdap vaccination to pass on immunity. Other than that, limiting visitors for the first month.
Following. I’m anticipating holidays will be especially tricky to navigate.
I think all we can do is make sure older kids' hands are washed thoroughly followed by hand sanitizer before they're put into the car at pickup.
I live in a dry climate, so even more than illness, I'm concerned about baby breathing well at night. To prep for this, I'll have the bulb syringe and the humidifier ready to go. My oldest had such trouble breathing in the winter at 7 months old that he'd vomit almost every night in his sleep because of the stuffiness he was experiencing :/
The baby can now get the RSV vaccine themselves which is awesome! I got Covid and flu shots while pregnant. The pediatrician was most worried about flu so we masked up until March and that got us to the 4 month vaccines.
I was crazy. Masks if coming in, only grandparents and aunts/uncles if even. Hand wash with soapy and water. I eased up at 6 months, that’s when they are much stronger. Btw I would have done this winter or summer.
My anxiety kept me up day and night about every germ that would go near him. You’re a little different because you already have another kid who probably is having external childcare or just exposure to more people, which means your baby is already going to be exposed to so many more things.
Regardless I would say anyone who isn’t vaccinated shouldn’t be going near a newborn baby.
I also wore my son if I had to be out around other people, this way nobody was tempted to touch and I was able to avoid navigating all those conversations.
For some context, I get an annual flu shot because I stopped getting it and got the flu every year. I have not gotten any Covid vaccinations. I just isolated, wore masks around everyone, etc.
I had a December baby, we were probably too lax reading these responses- beyond me getting my vaccines when pregnant and him when he was born we didn’t do anything specific to limit him, took him out often, to restaurants, on the bus etc. He didn’t get sick once but maybe due to luck. My parents had their covid/flu vaccines anyway before they saw him
