I no longer have to kiss ass at the office and my career success is judged based solely on my work. I feel like it has actually sped up my growth and career development.
Yeah, any CEO who says crap like that is broadcasting that networking, ass kissing and sucking up to leaders in the office with "influence" is how to get ahead in their particular culture. Eff that. Plenty of other orgs are getting the fact that people want their work, contributions and value measured, not their ability to suck up.
Sounds like more scare tactics from someone who has an expensive office lease they can’t get out of.
Bump
I’ve been 100% remote for 6 years and I’ve gone from senior CW to ACD, so I disagree. The first 4 I wasn’t even on zoom. It was a combination of calling into conf calls and Skype.
This is what a dying and increasingly out of touch CEO sounds like. Pay them no mind.
We work in advertising so we know that all these kinds of articles are a negative public relations campaign for WFH for corporate interests.
your career should be defined by the work in your book, don't need to be in the office to have good ideas
Just cuz he’s a CEO doesn’t mean he’s right
A lot of them are wrong about a lot of things. But that’s why they have people like all of us.
Yes but don’t care anymore. Happy to stay at my level as long as you pay me
Yes you can, this ideology only really applies to folks whose jobs are more smoke and mirrors anyway. If your work is tangible and clear and good than it really doesn’t matter. And I think this industry could benefit from losing more of those smoke and mirror folks anyway.
I was able to have a critical role in a multi market campaign across Canada, US, Mexico and Brazil partially because of a remote team structure. It was one of the most rewarding things. We all met IRl once or twice, but the majority of the last few years were done remotely in chats and video cams. It was a great, agile and super collaborative experience. I would not have had that opportunity if we were in a traditional in-office structure.
It’s just an opinion. I don’t think that the data is there
I've been nearly full remote for well over a decade in just about every role involved in the SDLC. Sure I go to less office parties and all but no, hasn't hurt my career advancement at all.
Wonder how much they’re paying in rent for their offices…also wonder if they have any clients who would benefit directly from their employees coming back to work (banks etc)
Not sure if I’ve noticed that yet. Nor has it effected who I hire or promote. If anything it makes things a little more competitive because I can hire talent everywhere with no relocation.
Wfh really just makes us all like freelancers.
Went from $38k to $50k to $60.5k in less than two years and expecting another raise coming up hopefully soon.. so I’d say remote compensation has been phenomenal for me
New BK work. What’s the verdict?
