Hi All,
Looking to make the move from working in industry to big4 and was curious as to what level and pay I might be worth?
I have 10 years experience out of uni, as well as completed CPA and MBA. I have a experience in managing entire finance function of small/medium entities, but most notably solid corporate finance experience/strategy leading refinance exercises, debt raising, hedging/treasury strategy etc…Would be looking for something in deal advisory / M&A / CFO advisory etc….thanks Deloitte EY PwC @

I like working at the BCG office in Sydney, I don't know if it's the best firm in Australia but it's alright. Not sure I would rank it for wlb though, it can be demanding.
Im joining BCG Sydney next Jan. But been worked pretty hard in the past few years (60hr weeks for stints, had a few 100hr weeks, ie weekends).
Will it be the same or worse? Im thinking surely it cant get any worse…

Nous Group (largest Australian-founded consulting firm) is good for WLB, but pay (similar to big 4 consulting), learning experience and career progression is less than MBB. Ex-Mck founder wanted to create a place where ppl can do interesting fulfilling work whilst living a full personal life.
EY PJP seems to have a solid rep in Australia, keen to hear more about them

Seems ok on LinkedIn, a mix of middle management exits (both public and private sectors) and T1/T2 consulting firms. No exits into ASX c-suite’s though. Does anyone have any direct experience with Nous?
Quantium is best for data analytics consulting. Good wlb. Lots of ex-mbb
Pretty decent. Grads start at 100k and each promotion is ~25% bump
It depends on your assessment criteria - in terms of learning experience, smart colleagues, size, pay and career progression: McK or BCG. But WLB? Probably not
From my perspective, I like where I am but I do wonder everyday what it must be like to work at the top tier firms. And I also want to find out if I have what it takes to make it there.
So I guess even if you have it good, it's hard to convince yourself it's enough.
Having moved from one big 4 in Australia to another big 4 in NZ - I would say the WLB in NZ is far far better (night and day honestly)
In terms of pay and the type of work - it really depends on what you do / want to do. None of the big 4 are truely ‘full service’ - one is better for strategy, another for SI, another for operations - and all are good at different sectors
I’m with BCG 1 on this. Do it briefly 2-3yrs, then find a job that lets you have a real life.
I am obviously biased towards McKinsey lol
I suspect it’s the same question as the global “which MBB is best question”, while also chucking in some of the local boutiques that have a good rep (e.g., EY PJP).
As BCG says - depends on your criteria.
I picked Bain because the local staffing model gave me the highest chance of zero travel, which is what I needed for family. And because I wanted PE experience and Bain is reputedly the market leader in that.
If you want lots of travel and / or case experience in probably any other industry other than PE, the others are probably better options.
