As a FYI, PwC is adding a Sr manager level. New track will be M->Sr. M->D->partner. Might be a step back in the mid-term.
Sounds like a lateral or even a step back, don't those firms consider director a stepping stone to partner instead of an alternate track?
If you’re currently manager at D, manager at K is a step down. Lateral level at K would be director.
K senior associate = D consultant
K manager = D senior consultant
K director = D manager
I think K Director would be D Senior Manager. Assuming Partner at the top, Director at K is Sr Manager at D. Mapping levels should be from the top, not the bottom I think. Director to Partner at K will take 5 years or less I think, Manager to Partner at D will have an intermediate level and take 3-5 years *2 to make partner.
I think M upwards the mapping is fairly one to one between K and D, D just has an extra level of SC. Experienced SA's at KPMG go as SC at D, first year SA's go to D as Consultants. Most Managers at K go to D as manager or higher.
I am ok with lateral move as I am 2nd yr manager. My primary motive right now is better comp as I am underpaid in D and only move to other firm will bring comp to better shape. D has good opportunities but it's been while I am with D. I prefer better comp over high paced growth
What is your current comp?
I came from PwC. Going to PwC would def be a step back and doesn’t pay as well as Deloitte.
