Hi Everyone,

Thanks,thanks a lot in advance,!

McKinsey & Company I am joining the McKinsey & Company Boston office in late July and searching for housing in the meantime. If I could get some insight on the ratio of days in the office vs work from home that would be super helpful!
If I need to come into the office regularly I will try to find a place close by.

"Listen fuckstick, this isn't the Oregon-goddamn-trail. I need money to not die from dysentery on the way to your pathetic office, so either make with the dough or I'll make with the go."
Something like that.
Personally, I think that's bullshit. It could be true, but probably isn't. And their budget problems fall squarely in the category of not your problem. If the offer isn't the amount you want, be firm. There is always extra room and anyone who says there isn't is feeding you a line. If they want you badly enough they'll figure out the financials.
☝🏼This. I don’t go to my landlord and say “I’m really interested in continuing to live here but I’ve maxed out my budget. Will you accept less?”
Yep. Go for relocation costs. At a 120K level, 10K is fair excluding visa. At 180 go up to 20K - make sure you can include your AirBnB costs
The thing is, I’ve already physically moved to that city but my last job fucked over my visa so my belongings are still in the last country I worked in + an active apartment lease (I’ve been paying rent with Airbnb rentals). Should I ask for a relocation bonus or anything else if salary seems fairly locked down? How would you phrase it?
See if it’s the kind of place where people use their vacation days
Was just in a similar situation, what city are you moving to / are you in ?
I like the gig, and LA is ok... but I miss NY. Here’s what I did... salary wasn’t what I wanted & I purposely didn’t want relocation $. Why? Because then I would be stuck in LA & role that isn’t paying me what i wanted for at least a year. So, what I did was make it known that I wanted to be at the agency, wanted the role, was excited about the opportunity, but a little disappointed with the $. An extra week of PTO is nice, but what I negotiated was a performance & salary review in 6 months from my start date. (vs 1 year). Why is this important? 2 reasons. A. Flexibility, if an agency relocates you and you want to leave before 12 months sometimes even 18 you need to pay them back.... B. They know I’m worth more and I’m going to take these 6 months to prove it to them. They know the range I was asking for, and I am working my tail off in these 6 months to prove my worth. When the review gets close, I will be living out here for about 6 months, I’ve already started building my network and will gauge the market before my review, as well as gauge my pulse to see if LA is right for me.... if I sit down with them and I get the raise I want. Fantastic! If not, I will have laid the foundation to peace out. I signed a short term lease, and will be out of it a month after my review..... long story short .... ask for a performance & salary review in 6 months (in writing).
Immediately? Yes. No one is going lack the hustle. I moved across the country for a great gig, I did some great work, they couldn’t afford me but I didn’t let that stop me from taking a chance on them & commit to prove my worth. I proved it, they recognized it, but weren’t in a position to offer me incremental salary & I am not in a position to continue to get underpaid for much longer at this point in my career, therefore I am exploring new opportunities. (Thats how I would explain 6 month stint in the short-term & it’s not a spin it’s the truth).... long-term, few years down the line, might just list it as freelance
