Don’t worry about it, background check usually only wants to confirm start and end dates. Previous employer would not say you were fired, however they may if it was for cause aka you stole something…but even then I doubt it
Don’t worry about it OP. No (former) employer wants the hassle of lawsuits, they’ll verify your employment validity dates and title & that’s it really.
Bad spells happen all the time, you learn from it, you get up again, and you give it another go elsewhere. Rooting for you ♥️
Thank you, all. 🙏🏼 Been dealing with the failure, and am excited to be back on my feet. I know I did everything I could and it just wasn’t meant to be.
I'm in the same boat... Still in the process of interviewing... Haven't got an offer yet. Still on payroll for a week.
Call the old employer’s HR and ask for a neutral reference. They’ll agree because they hate lawsuits. They will only confirm start and end date.
Definitely no need to worry if this in the United States. Employers can only verify your dates of employment and title in the US. So no need to say you were fired. You can give any reason
f
If in the US, it’s up to the employer if they want to provide the reason (eg RIF, cause, etc.)
I thought in the us you couldn’t reveal the reason ever

Was your prior firm Capco by any chance?
Lmao Capco guy. We both know the real thrush here. No need to save yourself. And it doesn’t matter you’ll be fine getting a new role

Why would it matter? You were up front about why you left the last place right?
Typically, they only give dates of employment in the US
They will confirm dates of employment and last title in US. That’s all they can do legally.
They can check dates but also eligibility for rehire. So you might get flagged and have to explain why you’re ineligible if you got fired for bad performance. No company will provide reason for termination though.
The background check will not show anything about being fired. At most it will show the dates employed. Certainly in the Fed space it was (during my time anyway) libelous to say "fired" unless it was because of some legal matter (e.g. theft, sexual harassment, violence, etc.). If you were let go because it didn't work out of background check will show it. Again, in my time, if they called your previous employer they might ask if they'd hire you again. If that employer said no, then they can assume it was a bad fit or it was a performance issue, although that too could cause problems for employers. When I ran my firm, investigators would call me and ask me if I would hire someone again, and if I said no, I would typically say this was because their position was eliminated. Everyone deserves the chance to make a living.

None of this is true.
It’s not libelous to say “fired” if someone was fired. The truth is an absolute defense to a libel claim.
Now, most companies just don’t want to deal with it, so they don’t say anything. But there are very few states with laws that restrict it. If you were fired from a job, your prior employer can absolutely say anything they like about it including lots of details around your performance and exactly why you were fired, and as long as they are telling the truth there’s no legal case to be made.
DONT WORRY AT ALL! period. I went through the same thing last year and was worried. It never shows up in your background check.

DM me I went through something similar. I got you. You got this and you will get through it.
You’ll be fine.

In this hiring market nobody gives a rats ass that I’ve been fired 5 times lol
I have the skills and I know I do. And I know company’s can’t find people with my skills
Then why were you fired 5x? 😶
On my background check for Deloitte I wrote “wasn’t the right fit” for the jobs from which I’d been fired, and “better opportunity made itself available“ on the ones I’d quit. No issues.
Depends where you live. In Netherlands only start and end date can be confirmed (I thought)
Appreciate all you guys. Thank you!
No, they can only ask if you’re rehireable - yes or no. Can be any reason from not giving proper two week notice or anything. So they can’t assume you were fired - you can say you left as it wasn’t a great cultural fit and that is important to you
