I was early promoted this year to M with a 2% raise and I’m calling it quits. I just don’t trust my local office or national leadership anymore and 15% isn’t going to happen - that’s a wet dream.
This reads like another of there sleazy lies from leadership the past few years. “Good comp for tax reform”, “Good comp for helping clients with etc.” “Good comp if you step up due to unneeded 2016 layoffs” and all you get is a sleazy $3k or $5k or $1500.
Those weren’t good bonuses for the amount of hours asked of us so I’m out.
@D1: I completely agree. I think this is a retention tactic just to hold us for a few more months
It's always a retention strategy, but that should require a 15% raise, depending on your current salary.
Sorry this has happened to multiple people - a 2% raise for being promoted to manager is rough. I do imagine the companies doing this are experiencing high turnover so they will need to up their game and offer market comp.
Thanks! Do you think a 15% base salary raise is realistic? In my 3 years at D, I have never seen that kind of raise even though I am top performer
They need to account for two years of raises this year or people are going to start leaving mid-busy season. They need to pay you like an M2 because you are at that level or they risk you going to another Big4 to get paid appropriately. You expect way more than 15%.
Come to midsize people. Yes comp is slightly less and resume looks less prestigious but at least I was able to negotiate my senior promo raise from 12 to 20%

Eeeh - nah. I’ll probably just exit Tax. No money in the profession.
I figure if I have good b-school that I went to undergrad, live in a HCOL, and with Uncle D on my resume - I should be able to jump to something else non-tax with somewhat ease.
I’m in the same boat, 2% after this promo from senior to manager. They keep asking us for more and give less. It’s exhausting and I don’t want to continue down the path with it anymore. I’m currently working on exit opportunities.

In my Central HCOL market, B4 isn’t hiring for tax managers which is surprising given how understaffed we are. I only found job postings that support our office in USI when I VPN to an Indian server.
There is a posting from PwC but that seems to be auto-reposted every 30 days as I don’t know anyone in my circle that applied that got a call back.
Seems to me that Big4 just wants us to quit so they can move our jobs to India 🇮🇳 which is why I’m heavily considering the non-tax route.
