You signed the contract and you were happy with the benefits. You found out someone else had different benefits and now youre put out. Does it suck, sure. But you’re going to find this everywhere you go.
Travel is going to be a thing again. If you want the core benefits but not the core lifestyle, you’ll have it for a while. But you’ll eventually end up on the road again. And you’ll be in competition with your peers more than USDC as well as on an ‘up or out’ track.
Core sounds way better on paper, but it’s a different pace and different operating model. Just understand what you’re signing on for before thinking you’re just getting better benefits. There’s more to the puzzle.
It’s not a different pace or operating model. There’s no difference at all except pay and benefits. I’ve been here a decade and worked in both core and DC. It’s exactly the same.
@D2 - educate me again on how people are supposed to be given a choice or presented with the opportunity to pick as you put it when they’re applying for a role or being referred for a role?
They can (and should) ask about benefits during the recruiting process. 16 weeks wasn’t important to them until they found out it was part of a package for someone else.
P/MDs get better benefits and pay. Does that not piss you off too? 😉
Again: does it suck, yes. But this is a business.
Real galaxy brain analysis here. People in positions much higher than you get paid more, so therefore it’s fine that you get paid much less for doing the same work as people in the level equivalent to you.
@D4 most of the new joiners didn’t even know what is the difference between usdc and core. Recently I was an OBA the person is dump founded to know
16 weeks parental doesn’t apply to usdc
Usdc is different from core
Don’t you think If people would have presented with the opportunity what they will pick ?
USDC is designed to be treated unfairly or in other words the ‘business model’ suggests so.Agree that the concern is really valid, but there is no solution for it as they won’t defeat the sole purpose of USDC.
You are part of the 4000+ member club in usdc - more work, less pay than core
It is the business model for USDC. It’s the gallows. Come take a seat next to me and start rowing. You may cry on my shoulder if you want. Just so you know, they can’t hear nothing up there. Just keep the volume down so my eardrums may last longer. And do pray often.
Most of the people is not aware USDC is not typical Deloitte, Deloitte recruiters are cashing on this aspect . You walking to doctor office and your diagnosis is handed in the form of a fine print .
D11 really no one really said to me usdc and core are different until the day I joined ?
I don’t understand posts like this. Core consulting is paid more/different benefits because of the travel obligation. If you don’t want to travel ever (even after Covid), then core consulting is not for you.
There are other Deloitte models that you can look into like the project delivery model that may be a better fit for you as well (client facing, project focused so no initiative requirements, etc). You could also look into internal roles.
You are not wanted in core unless you are built that way. Goodbye.
Use that to your advantage. Why did you go to Deloitte in the first place? Stick around and then move on. I have increased my salary by 100% (2x Deloitte) after I left. 🙂
As long as you can accommodate some amount of travelling and can do client interactions not just on tech delivery but also managing relationships - you can jump
How much of that is hands and how big is the team that you manage?
USDC is for second class humans benefits and bonuses say it out loud. Leave Deloitte for better or worst.
Hey D4, be honest and tell us that you are not M/SM who enjoys the grand-fathered benefits of the CORE like the pension plan.
Hired into USDC; not grandfathered. Didn’t know there were other models. Do like not having 16 weeks or pension? No. But moaning about it’s not making anything different. If I were unhappy about it or that put out about the benefits, I’d be transferring or quitting.
Travel alone does not justify 30% less salary and less benefits ..

Would just like to put it out there that for those that don't know the expectations on people are lower for USDC than core. What do I mean with that as a manager you have no financial metrics that you have to meet as a USDC practioner it's first when you become Senior (Solutions) manager/architect that you have financial metrics to meet. So a SSM/SSA is the equivalent of a Core Manager. This is the easiest way to show and explain the difference. But there's similar things even at lower levels.
D10 core managers do all of those things and are on multiple projects. Not sure where you're getting your info, but your interpretation of core responsibilities is very off.
