The closer the target fund year to the current year the less risky the fund is. Since you are not going to retire in 2040 and probably retire in 2050, you can take 2050 or 2055 target fund.
Any total stock index fund would do. VTI or ITOT are the crowd favorites. If in a 401K, if its at Fidelity, you can also squeeze one drop more out of the lemon by going with FZROX
I’ll add the target fund may not be the best option. If you’re willing to do a bit more work and research your options, you can build yourself a better portfolio. If you want to just set it and forget it, the target fund is the way to go since it balances automatically
