Had my last child 16 years ago. Am now a Big 4 partner, loving life and grateful for almost everything except for my favorite NFL team. Child 3 is now on the way, via surrogate. Anyone want to advise me on what’s changed since 2007 from a parenting advice/technology/sleep standpoint? For reference, my second (and most recent child) was born before the iPhone was released! Btw, I am very excited and cannot wait for child 3 to arrive!

Congratulations! Just one tip - Don’t get fancy baby monitors that has HD resolution connected to your phone. Get a basic one that comes with its own monitor so that you can use your phone when the baby is asleep.

Congratulations 1) you have the money so I guess you can afford a nanny to make go away most parenting problems 2) buy the SNOO bassinet

No to Snoo basinet, it is a can kicking exercise where problematically your child doesn't effectively learn self soothing techniques. I'd rather have spent that money on a night nurse.

like

Even better than snoo is a night nurse who can help sleep train your baby - pays dividends beyond when they grow out of the snoo/bassinet. We did this with our third and it was a complete game changer after doing it all ourselves with our first two.

Here’s some other basics/fan favorites in my household:
Car seat - Doona
Baby monitor - nest cams work great
For Running - Bob stroller
Bottle maker - baby breeza - clutch if going formula route
Breast pump - elvie - my wife used these for our second child and loved the convenience
Highchair/attaches to table/islands - Inglesina

Hope this helps - congrats on number 3, make sure you recruit help from those first two… changing poop diapers builds character.

This is all great advice, we had a night nurse for each of our two kids. The first one truly taught us how to be parents, and the second allowed us to rest up to be there full blast for our toddler dealing with the transition of having a sibling.

The Doona is an absolute game changer, can't recommend more

Would swap Nanit for the nest on the monitor.

If you go the Brezza route, which we love, get an extra funnel

Doctor browns bottles have been great for us too

The biggest difference is now it's acceptable for the father to take more than a week leave (I've taken two stints of 16 weeks each). May not be as applicable for you with a surrogate, but you still want to bond with that child in a way that wasn't really available in the past.

Is it worth making the time/money investment to make the switch from big 4 FDD to MBB. This would require getting into and paying for a top MBA program and my net worth would be way negative after that. Are the MBB financial returns worth it? Im 26 years old for reference

Networking question here. A retired partner at the firm I used to work out reached out to me recently about attending an afternoon during the week (b4 4/30) with one of his long time clients. The partner and I have kept in touch since I joined my new firm and I feel like his invitation is a great networking opportunity since the client (who I have worked with before) is on a number of boards. Torn as how to request off as an S3. Could materialize to nothing but could be good for reconnecting.

Had an FET transfer and just got the news that the pregnancy test is negative. Feeling very defeated about it. All my labs are good (AMH 3.1) and the embryos were PGA tested. Have only two left now, and this was the best quality one. The irony is I did feel pregnant couple days after transfer but then I stopped feeling pregnant. I read that some women don’t really “feel” pregnant until 6-7 weeks… but i did “feel” then stopped. It just sucks. If you have any advice for coping, I’d appreciate it.

529 Plan VERSUS Prepaid

We live in Florida and currently have a Freshman in High School and a 16 month old. We hear from our friends and family with college bound children "I wish we would have done Florida PrePaid." After obviously ignoring this for years, we are finally trying to do it before "it's too late" for both children.

Does anyone have recommendations on which plan to go with for each child? I once did the pros and cons on a whiteboard and it seemed like 529 was better.

Anyone ever considered contractor gig in Meta/Facebook or any other big players in tech? I'm full-time in a smaller company and it's pretty stable. Wondering if the move could be worthwhile. Mostly want to explore other areas. Other things to consider: planning for babies in the next 3-5 years; maternity leave in current position is basically what's legally required.

Working Moms/Dads: Do in-house positions exist with flex time hours? I need to be able to leave work at 4pm to pick up my son from daycare, but i can get back online at home to resume any unfinished work at 8pm. Is this realistic to convey to any companies in an interview? Pandemic aside, is face time 9-7pm really important? Or should i just try to find a job with a salary that covers a nanny salary and accept that i will never see my son on weekdays (which would be sad for both of us)? TIA!

Obesity is a chronic disease not a choice and it should be treated as such.
By both “body positivity” challengers who too often say obesity comes from laziness and lack of strong will and by obese people who also too often shield themselves stating “this is how I am, it is impossible to change it” when in fact they do not want to accept that fat is literally killing them.
Thoughts?

Hi. I am a Transition teacher in California. I would like to know what is the ratio of students to staff for community outings in your districts? I have been teaching in my district for 20+ years and it has always been 4:1 ratio for our moderate/severe transition classes. Now our director is saying it's 6:1 and I don't feel like this is safe for our students.
