Has anyone else branched off into a non-clinical role? I have my master’s degree and over 8 years experience in my field, yet I know that my pay rate is nowhere near what some people make in non-healthcare careers. It gets so discouraging, especially with the amount of school, stress and productivity requirements!

I transitioned to a non-clinical management role for a pay raise with bonus potential and was miserable. Long commute, always had to be responsive to work emails/calls, dealing with call outs, and tons of pressure to meet revenue goals. Now I work in higher ed for a masters program primarily in the fieldwork office. I also instruct labs and level I fieldwork. The role is hybrid which is nice. Honestly, I would likely make more working clinically but there’s more perks and better work life balance. Plus since I’m not burnt-off or exhausted, I also work per diem in acute care for extra cash on the weekends.

I definitely relate to this 😔

Leadership/administrative roles pay well but can really be a big stressor on work life balance that’s for sure!

If I had my masters I’d probably lean towards teaching also

Yes, I work in communications.

Out of curiosity. How would a company view a potential candidate who has a period of unemployment to study for the CPA. I am considering to start studying for the exam but I know I would need to leave my employer in order to give 110%. I am contemplating the idea of at least passing one part while employed. Then leaving my employer to study FAR. I am considering to leave my current employer anyways, so it’s more of how my future employer would view that lapse.
