My best advice is to stay under the radar as much as possible if it seems like the culture is not a good fit. The job market is brutal right now, especially in HR, as many roles are being impacted by AI and outsourcing. However, I would definitely encourage you to keep applying and exploring opportunities. Most importantly, do not leave your current job until you have secured something better.
Wishing you the best of luck, and hopefully the right opportunity comes along soon.
Titles aren’t everything. Every company is different. Settle in first while you still look for another role and ask questions about how your role fits in the new position. Always ask to help, and learn something new!
I 100% agree with Director 1. I am in the same exact position. However, as a previous recruiter, I have seen it time and time again where a person fights for an open position and then bolts when they get a better offer (and of course, when we've already trained them). So, I can see it both ways.
I just need to tell my 3-minute elevator pitch, at least.
Recruiters don't want to get burned so they don't even consider people like me and Director1.

Absolutely. Sometimes it is not about capability, it is just the wrong environment or the wrong leadership dynamic. That does not mean you have failed.

Why did you take the job if you feel you should be a Manager?

And this is why companies don't want to hire people for jobs beneath their current level. Which really hurts those of us who are near the end of our careers, because we are more than happy to take that step down a level or two and not have the headache of managing people. Few companies will hire us because they think that we'll be just like OP -- outta here as soon as more money comes along.
Absolutely. I left a mid- level consulting firm for a role with a startup that turned into a terrible choice for me. I'm on startup number 3 in 5 years and my current firm has been acquired by a very large public company so it's only a matter of time...
I've been trying like hell to get back into larger organizations for the last 18 months. It's hard. Just try to keep your head up as much as possible 🩵.
Sometimes in these situations the best thing you can do is manage your manager. Set up weekly check-in's or reporting etc. preemptively and ask what they can delegate to you. A lot of times when managers do this they are just over whelmed
It sounds as though the problem is not so much the title, but the company.
