Also posted over in tech bowl. Looking for advice on whether pursue a CS degree. I’m an older guy shifting to SWE. I finished bootcamp last May & about to start my first jr role at Oracle OCI. Late 30’s with a couple of kids. Is it worth it for me to seek a CS degree at this time/soonish? I’m not afraid of the extra work, and would go part time. Wondering if the eventual payoff would worth the effort. Will I level up quicker? Employer has partial tuition reimb.

Is there such place as non toxic ID firm? Or does any of ID attys like what they do? I moved from general practice to an ID firm six months ago. Biggest mistake of my life. Hi all 8.7 YOE now, Joined wipro 4 months back with 26.5+1lac JB. Skills business analytics. My current project does not follow agile processes at all, very relaxed client. However what im worried is after 2 years would interviewers expect me to have handled a project all alone and acted as a product owner. I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.

Interesting all the noise about these PPT, my take:

The pandemic took all the upside of an IB analyst life (client meetings in person, fancy trips, suit up, worshiped at networking events) and left all the juniors with the downside (long hours, monkey-like type of job, aggressive work environment).

Not that the complaints are not sort of legitimate but you may need to revise the decision-making process that led you to accept a return offer. Specially if you were looking for less hours.

I’m four months into my job and I got put onto a PIP. I worked so hard to break into IB, put up all the hours and even working 2am nights for weeks, learned a ton, and improved a lot along the way as the sole analyst yet this happens. I’m extra worried because it doesn’t seem there’s IB analyst positions out there. Im really hoping come January more positions come up but I’m just praying they don’t fire me until then. Asking for wife who's also in banking. If she got ~$100k in signing bonus in 2019 for 1 year commitment in CA and started FT in July 2020, assuming she leaves before July 2021, can her employer claw back full amount in California? Some say it's much tougher to do so under CA law but wonder if anyone has any insights. Banks won't likely care about analyst signing bonuses, but associate bonus at EB with diversity bonus can be significant. If she quits before, she won't be going to another bank.

I can really use some direction. My background, I've worked 2 years in strategy and am currently coming off an exhausting year 2 in investment banking. I didn't particularly enjoy either role and am not interested in moving over to the buy-side or some monotonous FP&A role. Everybody says there's exit-ops aplenty, but I find myself with less options and even more picky than I did as an ambitious T2 undergrad student. Where do I go from here?
