If this was in Corporate America, that teacher would be taking credit for these accomplishments 😂
When I left defense for consulting, my boss told me I wouldn’t last a year. That was 15 years ago.
Last in first out layoff from Covid. Despite being a upper percentile performer.
12 week severance gave me a free summer for the first time since High School. Found a job with more growth, negotiated a 35% pay raise and probably work 20 hrs less p/week. Didn’t hurt when we won a deal against them either this month.
Don’t care to say. I will add that they initially offered 8. I spoke to a lawyer to understand my options. Came back with 12 and they accepted.
Lucky? Definitely. Smart? Maybe not, but it worked.
Had a manager tell me I shouldn't work with clients. I then started in consulting and now make $120k more 6 years later.

Slightly off topic, but Penny's career story is a quite inspiring story of perseverance, even for non-swimmers.
Serious, I’m curious. I’ve been googling around but from everything I see, she had a fairly normal life outside of her swimming success and comes from a family of athletes. I haven’t uncovered any real story of adversity.
If her whole “story” is that one adult in her life thought she should focus her energy outside of swimming, that’s not really adversity. And it is a petty tweet. Sounds like her teacher had her best interest at heart, even if they were dead wrong.
