It can definitely be done just make sure you hit the schedule they give and as said above requires strong support from your current team. Also, just make sure you understand what you leave behind with PDM. The bench is even worse at traditional and people stay on it longer for a reason.
So, for that I would say it currently seems to require around 42 hours a week to have the Util be at the proper percent.
I made the switch this year. Process in pretty straight forward as long as you have support from your leadership. I just want to say that PDM is not a bad track at all. If you prefer to not do any FI’s then you maybe on the right track. All boils down to what you really want to do and what works for you.
Thank you. I think I’m gonna see if I like PDM first and then decide if “consulting” is for me. I realized that I was getting ahead of myself and worrying about the next five years when I might not even like it lol. Hopefully I’ll have a supportive team if I do decide to make the switch. I think I’m just leaning into the fear that “PDMs are the stepchild” and saying I’d have terrible benefits.
I made the switch. It’s attainable but you have to build a network first so not quick. You need a position that supports the move and partner support. Took me a few years to do it. It is definitely easier to just come in as traditional than it is to move to traditional from PDM but not impossible
I made the switch when I was at Deloitte, your end of year reviews have to be exceptional and you would need to have strong support from your team. I believe you have to stay in PDM for a year before you can make the switch, I would push to get the offer changed to the traditional model.
If you have already signed an offer for PDM, they won't be able to switch it now. PDM means you were hired for a specific role, and asking for a switch means that team needs to start all over to hire for that role again.
People do switch from pdm to core, but it's the exception not the norm and would typically take about 2 years min.
