Hi music teachers! How are you surviving? I’ve been teaching band and choir for a long time, but distance learning and Zoom has me stumped. I’m lucky to have a job, I realize. What are some things you’re doing in your virtual classrooms that your music students enjoy?

I’m a first-year associate. I love tattoos; the ones I have are covered. I want to get one on the back of my neck. I don’t face clients except on Zoom, is it still a bad idea? Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts.

Generally curious how many companies offer phone reimbursement? My last gig did not but the current one does. Legally it seems, all employers are required to do so if we use our phone in literally any capacity (video call, slack, teams, emails etc). How prevalent is the issue of not reimbursing phone dues?

On a big zoom call this morning. Child walks in fully naked and COVERED in marker. I mean face, legs, hands, everything. Even better, I didn't hear them right away and a coworker had to let me know they were there via chat. Turned around and my kid looked like a soldier in army paint. Example: We are 10 months into COVID and my firm still hasn’t decided on/implemented a video meeting platform (Zoom, Teams, etc.). So if I want to have a video meeting I have to ask the other party to use their video services. And it’s not at all a funding issue.

A female friend of mine recently received a settlement in a sexual harassment action against her employer during mediation. Upon receiving her (female) attorney’s final bill she was blown away to discover that her attorney charged her almost five times what the attorney estimated she would charge for the mediation. My manager and I usually check in everyday via slack to manage our ongoing projects. But he’s put a weekly 1:1 on the calendar...not sure what I can bring to that meeting or talk about if he already has so much visibility into my work stream. Advice pls! I’m also 3 months into the job

I'm waiting on a verdict for a civil jury trial (first one) and I want to go snowboarding tomorrow. They deliberated from 9-5 today with no verdict. Is it super frowned upon if I zoom in (it was a zoom trial) in a car or on the mountain or a lodge or something? Probably a dumb question but idk if receiving verdicts is a much more relaxed etiquette.

I’m going to start doing read alouds on Zoom for the students. Any recommendations for upper elemetary? Maybe something uplifting to help battle the anxiety they might be feeling?

I’ve worked at places that all have different holiday policies. EA has at minimum a nice 10 day shutdown from Christmas Eve through New Years. It’s great to know that there will be no slack messages or an exploded inbox to come back to while away. I’ve been at other studios that only give you Christmas Eve & Day and New Years Eve & Day and then the rest is up to you to request for PTO and this is obviously the suck.
