Well I started working two jobs in order to pay off my loans, so definitely. I cut out all unnecessary spending and took on a second job that takes about 30 hours per week. So pretty much all of my social time is gone. I'm considering it a short term sacrifice for a long-term gain, but right now I'm just tired.
Yeah, I'm tired after my 9-5 (which is more like an 8-7).... then I work one night a week serving. So, I'm tired too. Trying to balance it all is hard
How does maxing your 401k reduce student loan payments?
Same question I have
Yes, I have and it's been hard for me. I feel like no matter what. It's never enough. I hate to be the spoiled woman complaining about first-world problems, but I miss going out to brunch with my friends and getting my nails done.
Agreed!!!
I stopped ordering take out as much which was a combined effort to eat healthier as well. Also stopped shopping online as much. Not saving any more money monthly, but that money is going towards my loans vs those things
I don't really shop, I do my own nails, get my hair cut once every 6 months. I feel like I've cut back so much but it's still not enough
Not drinking alcohol is a huge health benefit and makes “eating out” a lot less expensive. Assuming federal loans, you should want to minimize your AGI at all costs. Max out your 401k, make charitable donations, etc. to reduce your loan payments.
Because your payments are based on your AGI. Your AGI is reduced by contributions to your 401k and charitable donations. Therefore, increasing 401k and charitable donations reduce your disposable income which is the basis of your loan payments in the IDRs.
I live in the UK and been working for 6 years now. I practically have not social weekends and don’t go out with friends much, but most of my disposable income after savings get consumed on lunch at work or travelling to work etc.
I've definitely cut back on going out to save money. Especially when it comes to getting cocktails and dinner, the amount of money I have spent is too much. I've been trying to do more coffee dates or hangouts that don't require us to spend a bunch of money every single time like going on walks or gathering at our places.
Yeah. I find it's really hard to sacrifice spending time with friends in order to save money
I have. I really do limit myself to going out to eat or door dash once a week. I try to be careful about how much I spend when I am out as well because even that can get out of hand..
