You can lateral again if you determine you want partner. The bird in the hand is the money/benefits biglaw and I’d weigh those more highly than partnership, which can be elusive and difficult to pin down.
The issue you’re seemingly not considering (but should) is the quality of people and the quality/type of work. You don’t want to move to a firm that will make you miserable and you want to do work that you like. Those are important things that will affect your performance and mental health. If you’re happy where you are in terms of people and work, don’t undervalue that.
Also—not trying to be a snob—you should consider why this firm is recruiting from midlaw. If there’s no obvious reason why they’d pick you over someone from another biglaw group, I’d be wary that they have recruiting/retention issues due to a toxic atmosphere. Do your due diligence and ask around, including people who have left recently.
