Hello everyone, I'm working on a presentation and I'm conducting an informal poll. What do you think the main benefits are of reading business and professional development books and articles?

I think it's helpful to understanding different perspectives from your own, and can help when transitioning from individual contributor to leader role. Rise by Patty Azzarello gave me a different perspective of how to present your work and what higher levels are looking to see.

This was reinforced when I overheard a VP speaking about a colleague that couldn't be promoted b/c they didn't know how to communicate with management. This person is incredibly detail oriented, which is great, but giving management the information in 3 ways with the entire history of the project is too much for them, when they just need a quick answer.

I personally think it's all placebo...but sometimes that literature outlines and emphasizes tools you already have inside you.

Could certainly help you get organized and inspired !! Not going to probably have any profound takeaways but reading that kind of literature is bound to trim fat.

For the regular reader, they provide food for thought.

One or two books is not going to make you smarter or more thoughtful, but over time (over years and dozens of books) you will see a meaningful and profound impact on your ability to think.

Seeking advice ...
Currently working in Due Diligence and looking to switch to either IM or Consulting. I’m really looking to grow and I recently got an offer for a TP role at one of the big four. Should I take the offer and then pivot to a management consultant role from there or should I stay in banking and try to get myself into IM? What are my options? Thanks!
