I pushed for an approval from another exec (who knew the previous exec wanted it done ASAP) and the second executive freaked out and chewed me out that he can’t drop everything, has other priorities and he’s the client. The first exec has a higher rank. Do I apologize to the one who yelled at me?

I recently gave my two week notice and will be joining a good firm.
While having drinks with my colleagues today one of them says “you’re not a citizen. Stop taking American jobs.” I am an immigrant yes, but I have a graduate degree from one of the target schools and have worked my a*$ off to be where I am. I laughed it off then but now I regret letting it go that easily.

So I’m feeling very upset. I’m very sensitive to feeling like a social outcast or that people don’t like me... and I feel like a colleague I work with is eithermaking jabs at me/or somehow resents me.

How do you deal with a manager / junior partner who is always nitpicking and questioning why you did what you did, or telling you what you did is the wrong way to do things? It’s generally prefaced with them only doing this to help you grow, but has the exact opposite effect on me. And then when you try to explain your POV, you’re tagged as being defensive. Generally ends me with saying I’m sorry. No other partners at the firm have ever raised any concerns on my communications or work product.

I have been in an awkward reporting structure for 2.5 years. On record I’ve reported to the VP of Marketing, who was crazy toxic, and technologically inept.
