I have noticed on this post and others there is an assumption among newer lawyers that showing interest in a job is evidence of desperation or some other negative trait. As the partner who does the hiring at my firm, I would never hire someone who did not show active interest in the job. You may think that you are being cool by staying aloof but there are other equally qualified people who actively pursue jobs - they demonstrate to me that they will approach our job and our clients with the right attitude.
So OP throw out the notions of “not sounding desperate “ and let this firm know you are sincerely interested.

It is perfectly reasonable, and probably good, to reach out to the recruiter and express continued interest after 2 weeks of hearing nothing. I would not be optimistic though if they are taking so long and would encourage you to apply elsewhere in the interim. It is very easy to fall into the trap of doing nothing as you wait to hear back from a desirable job only to get rejected a month later and now you’re really behind on your search, or you missed good opportunities, etc.

The 2nd interview was 10 days ago and they said it would take a while before we spoke again. Is there any way I can salvage this without sounding desperate? Should I reach out to the firm recruiter/partner I had the interview to show interest?

Thanks A1 and P1 - I sent the recruiter an email now expressing my continued interest.
