Hey Accounting Fam -

Started looking for a job when my company started going south due to COVID about 2 months ago. I’ve been very blessed to have survived 2 rounds of layoffs. Got an offer today that is a 15% increase in base pay. Company is stable and their leading in their field. Should I feel guilty for wanting to leave? I’m thankful my manager has kept me safe so far, and I feel like I owe her, specially since our team is short-staffed now.

Advice and anecdotes welcome.

Ohhh I had updated my comment because I thought you were working at EY but saw your comment that you are no longer there. I am sorry to hear :/

Company A has had two rounds of layoffs with another one coming.

Company B is offering you a 15% raise.

I mean I’m no consultant, but, I’m going to go out on a limb and choose Company B.

That will be $700 for my expert analysis, I’ll DM you my account info for the transfer.

No, I’m in tax, you can trust me! 😄

I would honestly make a move if your company keeps having lay-off, which shows the company is not stable. It’s better to secure a job and maybe you could delay the start to early next year?

like

You have to look out for yourself, your manager did not protect you they do not have that much power. You do not owe the manager or company anything. Your loyalty is an admirable trait but it is wasted at the big 4 as they have no idea what that actually means. They would let you go in an instant if it came down to your salary and a reduction in the per partner earnings.

like

Why don’t you save the staffs role and ask your company to “lay you off” and get a nice package

like

I definitely thought about bringing this up.

Do what is best for you. Think of it as a business transaction. If you will gain more at going somewhere and selling your services there then go there.

The company doesn’t cover your ass for you. You need to CYA and do whats right for you. Thank your manager and keep a good relationship while walking out. Finish what you need to do and go above and beyond to leave your team at the best possible spot. People move on,thats just part of life.

At every payday you even up. Work for pay. You owe them nothing more. Go for it and make your life great. Good luck.

I’m helping my GF with excel and need help lol. She works at a hospital and is trying to make an excel schedule for doctors to reserve rooms. She wants drop downs for days of the week (column K) and also different drop down menus in column P for the reserved time slots.

Is it possible to do this with two sets of drop downs (days of week + time slots) and not use index match here? She could make 5 tables for each day of the week, but prefers one table that can be easily navigated by doctors.
