Offer letter said, “Given your anticipated start date, you will not be eligible for a 2021 year-end market bonus.” My office’s head partner said same via offer phone call. Didn’t negotiate bc (dumb) was so giddy to accept. Did receive fall special bonus, tho. I worked my ass off the 15 weeks of 2021, want to discuss bonus with my team. I am a sixth-year associate overseeing a second year. They are an exceptionally good associate. I am honestly shocked at the work product I receive and the way they go above and beyond. The issue I have is that they sometimes take awhile to turn things around. For example, I ask for a draft response to the client, and they take three-four days. I know they’re busy, but I would like to address this in a positive way. Any suggestions?

How many of you biglaw associates are on your grind trying to recruit people to earn a big referral bonus? I’m treating it like a side gig. My firm’s IT (especially system saving and file locating function) is so bad 😐😞 and they keep doing updates no one asked them for just to mess with the stuff we already got a hang of without doing anything about the issues we actually need fixed. Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. I’ve worked twice as hard and feel like I’ve barely even gotten half as much.
