Investing newbie here: pros cons of getting a rental property vs investing in stocks?

I have a LOT of credit card debt. It has just grown over time and I can’t find my way out. Considering an offer to go from firm (4 YOE) to become a privacy/product counsel for a tech company (non-faang). One concern for me is the potential of a recession in late 22 into 23 with the fed rate hikes. My fear is if that happens, me being on the chopping block as new in house counsel.
